A big congratulations to Shania, Miss Naomi, Miss Brittany & Miss Hailey who were nominated by our medal test examiner for SDTA Scholarships. Also congrats to Miss Brittany & Alyta who did us proud at the Western Canadian Highland Dance Championship and one of the first ever Premierships in Canada in Kamloops, BC last month! All dancers were great representatives of the outstanding people involved in JSHD! Thank you!

Scotland Fundraiser

JSHD Dancers / Teachers are fundraising for their trip to Scotland. To support us you can purchase Sobey’s gift cards via JSHD. Sign – up and leave payment with the teachers at the studio (cheques payable to Kendra Jones McGrath). You can purchase gift cards of various values and receive 100% of your payment on a gift card. Dancers / teachers travelling to Scotland benefit because the more we sell, the greater % of sale value is returned to us for our trip.

June 1^st – Relay for Life Performance

We have been invited to participate as performers in Relay for Life again this year! We usually receive the first or second performance spot at 7:30 or 8:00pm. This has always been one of my favorite performances. Traditionally JSHD does not have a year end performance so we have often dubbed this our last big hurrah of the year. It has always been a great time. All JSHD dancers are welcome to participate and can sign – up at the studio. Costume rental fees will be donated to Relay for Life. More information to follow.

June 9^th – Lloydminster StreetFest Performance

We have tentatively been asked to perform at Lloydminster StreetFest which has a similar feel to the St. Walburg Blueberry Festival if any of you have performed there. I am a volunteer on the organizing committee (Under 18 activities) and would greatly appreciate the support of the dancers and their families by participating. Sign – up is at the studio. It should be a fun performance! More information to follow.

April Extra Lessons

Extra Lessons – June 2012

Many dancers have a big summer ahead of them with June performances and SDCCS. Hence we will be providing the following classes in June as well as privates, semi-privates and trios. Contact Miss Kendra or sign – up at the studio.

Tuesdays

4:15 – 5:15pm – Beginner / Novice

5:15 – 6:30pm – Intermediate & Premier

Thursdays

4:15 – 5:00pm – Primary

5:00 – 6:00pm – Beginner / Novice

6:00 – 8:00pm – Open for Privates, Semi-Privates, Trios ect.

Fees:

1 Class / week: Primary $29/ month, Beginner / Novice $40 / month, Intermediate / Premier $50 / month

2 Classes / week: $70 / month

Drop – In: $14 / class

Sandy Beach Dance Camp

JSHD Sandy Beach Highalnd Dance Camp dates are Tuesday July 3rd – Friday July 6th, 2012.

Registration forms are available by clicking here and a few copies will be at the studio.

This camp is geared to JSHD dancers but dancers from other studios are welcome with a reference letter from their teacher.

Schedule:

Primary, Beginner & Novice Camp: 9am – 12pm daily

- Includes snack, craft, traditional dances, cakewalk, choreography, dance / cultural oriented activities, & souvenir

Intermediate & Premier: 1 – 3pm daily

- Includes Highland, National, Jig & Hornpipe & dance / cultural oriented activities & souvenir

Cost:

- Primary, Beginner & Novice: $125 (taxes included) + Sandy Beach Park Daily Pass

- Intermediate & Premier: $90 (taxes included) + Sandy Beach Park Daily Pass

- Non-refundable $50 deposit due June 1^st, 2012.

Fall 2012 Registration

Fees will be finalized in July of 2012 and are not due until the first week of lessons.

Bring a Friend Week

Thank you to all those that requested another Bring a Friend week. Unfortunately, with a new baby on the way, I am not able to accommodate this request this year. However, I will continue to offer the referral program. For each new dancer referred and signed up for classes in Fall of 2012 your dancer will receive a free privates lesson ($25 value). Thank you for your continued support of JSHD!

Choreography?

I am interested in preparing the dancers to perform the choreographies they worked on for the Highland Holiday Ceilidh this past December for the Saskatoon Competition May 26th, 2012.

IF you plan on attending the May 26th competition please sign-up at the studio or let me know via kendra@jonespilatesandhighland.com .

Cost per dancer for participating in the choreography will definitely be less than $50. This includes entry fee, costume rental, and any extra lessons (if any) are required. Any extra lessons (unlikely, but at most 1-2) will be held in the 2 weeks leading up to the competition and I will do my best to accommodate all the dancers. All dancers will need a ScotDance Card to be eligible to compete. ScotDance Cards are an additional $25.

Miss Kendra’s Having a Baby!

My last day of teaching will be April 23^rd, 2012. I will have limited access to internet and phone until May 14^th, 2012.

From April 24^th onward, the very capable Miss Brittany & Miss Hailey will be instructing all Primary, Beginner and Novice classes until I am able to return. Ashley Richmond of North Battleford has offered to take 3-4 weeks of the Thursday classes from 6-8pm (Intermediate & Premier) after which time I will return to teach these classes. Ashley is a Member of the SDTA and is currently a Nutritionist in Maidstone for the Prairie North Health Region. Heather Nestman, Ballet, Tap & Highland instructor from Marshall will be teaching the last Extra Class on April 24^th from 6-7pm. The last Championship Class on April 30^th will be made up by extending the previous 2 classes to 2 hour. Thank you all for your understanding and support during this exciting time for my family.
